The Region is rich in water resources. It numbers 70 thousand big and small rivers and more than 200 thousand lakes. The full-flowing Northern Dvina and Pechora are inferior only to the Volga in water-bearing.

The waters of the Regions are inhabited by carp-bream, pike, vendace, perch, burbot, grayling, powan, sea trout, roach, salmon, sterlet. 252 rivers are spawning places of salmon. Fauna is represented with Arctic fox, marten, squirrel, elk, bear, hare, Siberian chipmunk, with game and water-fowl.

Hunting tours are arranged in the Mezen, Velsk, Primorsky, Krasnoborsk, and Onega Districts of the Region as well as the Nenets Autonomous District.
