The Krasnoborsky District
The Krasnoborsk District is in the south-east of the Arkhangelsk Region in the flood-lands of the Northern Dvina River and its tributaries - the Uftyuga, the Yevda, the Lyabla. It borders on the Kotlas, Ustyansky, Verkhnetoemsky, Lensky Districts. The District was organized in April 1924 when the Northern-Dvina Guberniya was divided into districts; its administrative centre is the settlement of Krasnoborsk.
The distance to Arkhangelsk is 540 km. The total area of the land is 947 248 hectares, the population is 18.6 thousand. There are 342 settlements in the District, and 10 village administrative units.
The climate of the District influences much both nature and man, his life and activities. The air temperature depends on the level of the Sun radiation and the air circulation; the coldest month is January, the warmest one is July. The main industry is forestry, logging being the most important branch of it.
