The fate of the Kargopol District today, the perspectives of the area development are closely connected with in-tourism. Unique monuments of history and culture, closeness of Kenozero National Park, landscapes outstanding in their beauty and originality, good geographical position and mild climate make the Kargopol District very attractive, as a tourist destination it has good investments perspectives. The Target Programme of Tourism Development is being realized in the area, all branches of tourism – natural, ecological, cultural, educational are being developed. The promotion of events tourism stimulates such activities as celebrations of folk artisans of Russia and Ice Sculpture Festival which are held annually in Kargopol and attract tourists both from Russian and from abroad – Finland, Sweden, Norway. With opening a new transportation ‘corridor’ Oulu - Kostamuksha – Pudozh - Kargopol – Arkhangelsk the prognosis for many times growth of in-tourists from Europe, Karelia, Saint-Petesburg is real.
