The Konoshsky District
The Konoshsky District is in the south of the Arkhangelsk Region and borders on the Kargopol, Nyandoma and Velsk District of the Arkhangelsk Region and the Vozhega District of the Vologda Region. The District is a kind of a gate to the Arkhangelsk North from the middle parts of Russia. Its area is 8.4 thousand square km, the population is 29.2 thousand. The District centre is the town of Konosha
The District comprises the workers’ settlement of Voloshka, Yertsevo, Podyuga, 7 administrative units of 161 villages and settlements. The main industry here is woodworking. There are logging, timber and pulp and paper enterprises working there.
Two main railway roads connecting Moscow and Arkhangelsk, Moscow and Vorkuta run on the territory of the District making Konosha a large railway junction of the Region.
Konosha
Konosha is a small town with 20 thousand of population. In 1998 the town celebrated its 100th anniversary. It is hard to overestimate its importance as a junction of the Arkhangelsk -Murmansk, Vorkuta - Syktyvkar railroads. To get to these places is practically impossible by any other means of transport but the railway roads.
