The Pomor villages in the north of the Arkhangelsk Region, in the Districts of Mezensky, Pinezhsky, Onezhsky, Leshukonsky, are the centres of the original folk culture; they have preserved centuries-old life style, villages’ lay-outs and architecture, rituals, folklore, chorus singing, crafts and arts of the Pomor people. Such historical and cultural villages as Kimzha, Kevrola, Verkola, Uftyuga have long become pilgrimage places for folklore and ethnographical expeditions, and today they attract those who love active recreation in the remote villages.

 | | «Rest in a northern village»A house in a village or out of it, on the lake shore or the river bank, northern wooden buildings and healing forest air, quietness and rest… Simple northern village cuisine – shchi (cabbage soup), ukha (fish soup), zharkoye (stew), fish fried, smoked or salted, cucumbers and mushrooms, pies made in the Russian stoves, pancakes with jam and honey, homemade cottage cheese and sour cream, juice of cranberries and cowberries.  | | «Rest in the guest-house «Kononovo»The guest-house, a comfortable cottage with modern conveniences (WC, shower) in the village of Kononovo (80 km from the settlement of Khotenovo), is on a 20-metres high bank of the River Svid. It is a log 2-storey building opened for visitors in autumn of 2004. 5 rooms are on the first floor: one is with a big family bed and a bathroom en suite; three rooms are with two beds each and one room is for three (no toilet). On the ground floor there is a bathroom; a lounge with a fire place serves as a dining-room, there is a TV set, refrigerator, music centre there. Close to the cottage, in the courtyard, there is a bath house with two sections – one is for a Russian bath in an old ‘black’ style (there is no chimney there and smoke fills the house in the process of heating water and the room, the bath house is ready when the fire is gone, the room is aired); another is a sauna (with electric heater) and a rest room. Traditional village culture is the bulk of the heritage in the Pinega Land. It is seen in the architecture of living and household quarters, in the lay-out of the villages, in craftsmen’s artifacts, singing and oral traditional lore. Centres of traditional culture are the ancient villages where once pagan tribes settled – Karpogory, Verkola, Sultsa.
Groups of tourists of 6-20 are invited.
The tour duration is 4 days and 3 nights.
The price of the tour includes, transport, accommodation in the guest houses, meals, a village show with open fires where hazel-grouses are baked, tasting of the home-distilled blackberry vodka, a visit to the local museum of the village of Sultsa and to the memorial museum of Fyodor Abramov in the village of Verkola, an excursion to the Svyato-Artemiyev Verkolsky (St. Artemy of Verkola) Monastery and Petr and Paul (St. Peter and St. Paul’s) Church in the village of Karpogory.
